Middle School Science Professional Development

ESD 105 provides the region’s Middle School teachers with foundational training for STC/MS (Science and Technology Concepts for Middle School). This professional development is purposely designed to help teachers successfully implement the lessons in each unit and is delivered by a Master Teacher Trainer.

This foundational training is designed help teachers understand:

  • The learning progression of science concepts in the lessons.
  • The role of the teacher as facilitator, management of materials.
  • How to use student science notebooks as an integral part of science teaching and learning.
  • How student lessons and activities align with WA K-12 Science Standards.

 Goal:

Recognizing that students learn best when instruction is provided in a variety of ways, classroom teachers receive 18 hours of professional development training on each science unit.  This professional development also promotes the new state science standard alignment and assists teachers in developing student assessment tools for the classroom.

Middle school master trainers for each of the 8 science units receive professional development training specific to each science unit in the new state standard alignment, and student assessments to meet future training needs.  This professional development is purposely designed to deepen teachers' understanding of science and inquiry centered learning methods.
